Chief Executive Highlights Youth as Hong Kong’s Future at CPPCC Youth Association Inauguration

Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu emphasised that young people are the future of Hong Kong and an important driving force for national development when officiating at the inauguration of the seventh executive committee of the Hong Kong CPPCC Youth Association.

The ceremony was held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre and also marked the 29th anniversary of Hong Kong’s return to the motherland. More than 800 guests attended, including senior officials and representatives from the Central Government’s Liaison Office and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Hong Kong.

In his speech, Lee said the government is drawing up Hong Kong’s first five-year plan in alignment with the national 15th Five-Year Plan. Public consultation has just concluded, with many young people actively contributing their views. The government is analysing the feedback and aims to announce the plan next month.

He noted that since taking office, the administration has released Hong Kong’s first Youth Development Blueprint and introduced more than 290 support measures covering employment, entrepreneurship, home ownership and mental well-being.

Lee encouraged the new executive committee to act as a two-way communication bridge between the government and young people, nurture talent for public affairs and district governance, and create more exchange, internship and entrepreneurship opportunities in the Greater Bay Area.

Newly elected chairman Solomon Yung Sze-hon outlined three priorities: strengthening national security education and national identity, enhancing communication between youth and both the government and Mainland sectors, and encouraging community service so that young people can contribute to society.

Outgoing chairman William Shum expressed appreciation for the association’s work over the past two years and encouraged the new leadership to continue guiding young people to integrate into national development.

The Hong Kong CPPCC Youth Association was established in 2014 to unite patriotic young people and support the long-term prosperity and stability of Hong Kong and the country.
