Fourth Hong Kong Pop Culture Festival Returns in April 2026 with Theme "Beyond Fantasy"

The fourth Hong Kong Pop Culture Festival, presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, will take place from April to June 2026 under the theme “Beyond Fantasy” (超乎想像). Following the success of previous editions, this year’s programme invites audiences to explore how imagination across generations reshapes Hong Kong’s unique pop culture, turning the impossible into reality through music, film, visuals, stage performances, and cross-media creations.
The festival will feature approximately 20 programmes and over 120 events. It opens with the multimedia concert “Dreamscape” on 17 and 18 April at the East Kowloon Cultural Centre. Co-curated by award-winning erhu virtuoso and film composer Chu Wan-pin and musician Vicky Fung, the show blends re-arranged classic Hong Kong film scores with pop music, street dance, and art technology. Guest artists include Phil Lam and Winka Chan @ COLLAR on the first night, and Tang Siu-hau and Jeremy Lee @ MIRROR on the second. Tickets priced at HK$380, $480, and $580 go on sale from 13 March via URBTIX.
The flagship outdoor event, “ImagineLand”, returns on 25 and 26 April with free admission at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Piazza and Salisbury Garden. Daytime activities include the “Go Beyond Concert” showcasing emerging local, mainland Chinese, and Thai talents, a debut Cantopop DJ party, and the “Pop Unboxed” installation curated with the Hong Kong Design Institute—featuring trendy collectibles inspired by the folktale Ten Brothers, neon street scene photo spots, surreal fashion, and vinyl-virtual singer displays. Evenings will host “Movie Under the Stars”, screening the fantasy romances Last Song for You (2024) and Fly Me to Polaris (1999).
Film highlights include the Hong Kong Film Archive’s “Fantasies in Reality” series, presenting 12 classic fantasy titles such as the 4K-restored The Spooky Bunch, Ten Brothers, and A Chinese Ghost Story. A special tribute screening of the 4K-restored *The Kid (1999) starring Leslie Cheung will take place on 26 April to mark what would have been his 70th birthday. The Archive’s 25th anniversary celebrations continue with a “Restored Treasures” film marathon in May and a related exhibition at the Hong Kong Heritage Museum from June.
Additional offerings feature performing arts collaborations, library workshops and talks on fairy tales, science fiction, and mysteries, plus partner events with the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra and youth groups. Full details and updates are available at www.pcf.gov.hk.
