The Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) is marking its 60th anniversary with a series of vibrant celebrations, highlighted by a major student co-creation art project currently taking place in Wan Chai.

The initiative has brought together hundreds of local primary and secondary school students, along with young artists and designers, to collaboratively create large-scale public art installations. The artworks are being displayed in prominent public spaces across Wan Chai, transforming the district into an open-air gallery that showcases the creativity and imagination of Hong Kong’s younger generation.

Under the theme “Connect the World, Shape the Future”, the 60th anniversary celebrations aim to strengthen community ties, promote Hong Kong’s creative industries, and engage the public in meaningful cultural activities. The student co-creation project is one of the flagship events, designed to inspire youth participation and foster a sense of ownership in Hong Kong’s cultural development.

In addition to the art project, the HKTDC has rolled out various anniversary programmes, including:

  • A specially decorated 60th anniversary-themed tram running on Hong Kong Island routes.

  • The “Design Gallery on the Move” — a mobile exhibition showcasing outstanding Hong Kong designs.

  • Special promotional offers and events at the HKTDC Design Gallery.

  • A series of forums, seminars, and networking events.

HKTDC Chairman Professor Frederick Ma and Executive Director Sophia Chong have both expressed strong support for the student-focused initiatives. They emphasised that engaging young people is crucial for nurturing future talent and ensuring Hong Kong remains a dynamic international city of culture and creativity.

The Wan Chai student art event is open to the public and is expected to run for several weeks, attracting both local residents and tourists. Organisers hope the project will not only celebrate HKTDC’s six decades of service but also highlight the energy and potential of Hong Kong’s youth.

This anniversary programme reflects the HKTDC’s continued commitment to promoting Hong Kong’s trade, design, and creative sectors on the global stage while strengthening its connection with the local community.
