Hong Kong Book Fair 2025 Opens with "Food Culture, Future Living" Theme

The 35th Hong Kong Book Fair kicked off yesterday, July 16, 2025, at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre in Wan Chai, drawing enthusiastic crowds eager to explore its literary offerings. Running until July 22, the seven-day event opened its doors at 10 a.m., welcoming book lovers with the theme "Food Culture, Future Living."

The fair, organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, anticipates over 1 million visitors, including local residents and tourists. Attendees of all ages filled the venue, with many parents accompanying children to discover new books and engage in the fair’s interactive displays.

Culture Secretary Enjoys the Fair

Secretary for Culture, Sports, and Tourism Rosanna Law Shuk-pui was among the visitors, immersing herself in the fair’s vibrant atmosphere. At the "Book Here" installation, she explored an innovative artificial intelligence camera and shared her excitement about the event. “The moment you step into the venue, the delightful aroma of books envelops you,” Law said. “Immersing oneself in literature is truly the greatest pleasure.” She purchased seven books, spending approximately HK$900, including titles authored by Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Since its inception in 1990, the Hong Kong Book Fair has been a cornerstone of the city’s cultural calendar. This year, those born in 1990 can enter for free, celebrating the fair’s 35th anniversary. Admission is priced at HK$30 for adults and HK$10 for children, with free entry for seniors aged 65 and above.

The fair operates from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily, with extended hours on the final day, July 22, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Visitors can explore a wide range of books, interactive exhibits, and themed activities centered around food culture and sustainable living, reflecting the forward-looking theme of this year’s event.
