Govt cancels 6 fugitives’ passportsThe Secretary for Security, Tang Ping-keung, announced a series of stringent measures yesterday targeting six fugitives who have fled to the UK. These individuals are accused of crimes including inciting secession, colluding with foreign or external forces to endanger national security, and continuing activities that harm national security even after their escape. Seeking refuge in the UK does not exempt them from Hong Kong's laws.

A government spokesperson stated that these fugitives continue to engage in activities that endanger national security in the UK and make sensational and defamatory remarks against the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR). They even brazenly collude with external forces to protect their wrongdoing. Therefore, the government finds it necessary to take strong measures to combat such actions.

The specific measures include:

i) Prohibition against making available funds etc or dealing with funds etc

ii) Prohibition against certain activities in connection with immovable property

iii) Prohibition in connection with joint ventures or partnerships with relevant absconders

iv) Cancellation of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region passports etc

In addition, other measures, such as the “suspension of qualification to practise”, is applicable to Fok Ka-chi, while “temporary removal from office of director” is applicable to Mung Siu-tat and Choi Ming-da.

The police remind citizens that it is a criminal offense to directly or indirectly provide funds or other financial assets to these fugitives without the authorization of the Commissioner of the Security Bureau. Upon conviction, individuals can face up to seven years of imprisonment.

The police have lawfully applied for arrest warrants and issued wanted notices for these fugitives in July and December of last year.

The government emphasizes that these measures aim to safeguard national security and uphold the rule of law in the HKSAR. Any acts that endanger national security will face severe punishment. Citizens are urged to remain vigilant and refrain from testing the law.
