Hong Kong is hosting the ABU Asia-Pacific Robot Contest on Sunday at Queen Elizabeth Stadium, bringing together 16 teams from 15 regions. Organized by RTHK and HKSTP, this year’s martial-arts-themed competition, "Kung Fu Quest," requires local representatives Team Sapientia (HKU) and Team Power Builder (CUHK) to deploy both a manual and a fully autonomous robot to assemble weapons, retrieve scrolls, and complete a giant tic-tac-toe challenge within three minutes.

HKU mentor Henry Lau noted that the autonomous programming makes this edition exceptionally demanding. With final robot submissions complete, both Hong Kong teams are now focusing solely on strategy, startup routines, and control fine-tuning.

Beyond the scoreboard, mentors Lau and CUHK's Billy Yip see the event as a vehicle for student growth, fostering a local culture of post-match friendly exchanges and encouraging younger members to take full ownership of their engineering choices.
