Hong Kong to Host 11th Belt and Road Summit Focusing on Cross-Regional Cooperation and Overseas Expansion

The 11th Belt and Road Summit, co-organised by the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), will take place on 9 and 10 September 2026 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre in Wan Chai.
Held under the theme “Advancing High-quality Development • Embarking on a New Journey,” this year’s event will explore emerging opportunities in trade, investment and development among Belt and Road economies and other markets, with particular emphasis on ASEAN, Central Asia and the Middle East. The two-day gathering is expected to bring together government officials, business leaders, investors and professional service providers, with nearly 100 policymakers and business figures scheduled to speak.
The opening session will feature HKSAR Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu, Uruguay’s Vice President Carolina Cosse, Laos Deputy Prime Minister Saleumxay Kommasith, and HKTDC Chairman Professor Frederick Ma Si-hang. They will discuss global economic and trade developments as well as international cooperation.
New Central Asia and Middle East chapters will be introduced, bringing together consulates, business organisations and companies to showcase investment projects and commercial opportunities in the two regions. Government officials and business leaders from Central Asia and the Middle East will outline the latest economic developments and investment prospects. Project investment sessions will cover infrastructure, smart cities and professional services, among other areas.
A new Go Global Chapter will support mainland Chinese enterprises seeking to expand overseas. HKTDC Assistant Executive Director Anna Cheung Ming-ming noted that the initiative includes thematic breakout sessions on overseas expansion and Hong Kong’s professional services strengths, along with a new GoGlobal Connect Zone that brings together local service providers. Roundtable discussions, one-on-one business matching sessions and a GoGlobal Business Study Mission to Nansha in Guangzhou will also be arranged.
The summit’s Project Investment Sessions, Deal Making activities and exhibition zones will feature more than 300 investment projects with a combined value exceeding US$3.7 billion. More than 800 one-on-one business matching meetings are expected to connect project owners, investors and service providers. Highlights include projects such as Kazakhstan’s Alatau City and Data Centre Valley, as well as Turkey’s Ankara–Istanbul High-Speed Rail.
As part of Belt and Road Week, the HKTDC will launch ASEAN Market Day on the afternoon of 10 September. The event will enable business leaders and experts to share practical experience with Hong Kong companies—particularly small and medium-sized enterprises—seeking to enter ASEAN markets. Participants will also meet representatives from HKTDC offices in ASEAN, regional consulates general and business associations for consultations and networking.
The Belt and Road Global Forum Annual Roundtable will follow on the morning of 11 September. This closed-door meeting will bring together organisations and business associations from Hong Kong, mainland China and overseas to exchange information and explore opportunities for multilateral cooperation.
HKTDC Assistant Executive Director Anna Cheung Ming-ming emphasised that, amid the reshaping of the global economic landscape, Hong Kong serves as both a key platform for mainland enterprises to expand overseas and a preferred gateway for international companies entering the mainland and Asian markets. As a core member of the HKSAR Government’s dedicated “Go Global” task force, the HKTDC continues to leverage Hong Kong’s strengths as an international business and investment platform to help enterprises seize opportunities along the Belt and Road and in other emerging markets.
The summit continues Hong Kong’s role as a “super connector” and “super value-adder” in promoting high-quality Belt and Road cooperation.
