The Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) and CoinDesk have signed a Memorandum of Understanding establishing a strategic partnership that will see Consensus, CoinDesk’s global conference on artificial intelligence, blockchain and digital assets, staged in Hong Kong as its Asian flagship event for three consecutive years from 2027 to 2029.

The agreement was formalised on 27 October 2026 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC). Under the partnership, Consensus Hong Kong 2027 will take place at the HKCEC from 1 to 3 February 2027, with subsequent editions following in 2028 and 2029.

Following its successful debut in Hong Kong in 2025 and return in 2026, the three-year deal confirms Hong Kong as the permanent home of the conference’s Asian edition. The event brings together international policymakers, institutional investors, entrepreneurs, technology firms and startups from the fintech, Web3 and emerging technology sectors.

HKTB Chairman Dr Peter Lam said Consensus Hong Kong is more than an industry gathering. “It is an important platform for exchange, collaboration and new business opportunities. We are delighted to establish a long-term strategic partnership with CoinDesk, making Hong Kong the continued home of Consensus’ Asian flagship event. This is a strong vote of confidence in Hong Kong from the global industry and underscores the city’s pivotal role as a ‘super-connector’ and ‘super value-adder’ between the country and the world.”

He added that the partnership is expected to attract high-value business travellers, generating significant spillover benefits for hotels, restaurants, retail and professional services.

Consensus Hong Kong Chairman Michael Lau highlighted the city’s strengths. “Since its debut in 2025, Consensus Hong Kong has received an enthusiastic response from the industry. With its international business environment, comprehensive infrastructure and connectivity to both Chinese Mainland and global markets, Hong Kong is a natural home for the event.”

Lau noted that as digital assets and artificial intelligence increasingly converge, the 2027 programme will expand to position AI as a core theme alongside digital assets. He expressed confidence that close cooperation with the tourism board over the next three editions will foster cross-sector collaboration and further strengthen Hong Kong’s standing as a leading innovation and technology hub in Asia.

The signing ceremony was conducted by HKTB Executive Director Anthony Lau and Michael Lau, and was witnessed by Dr Peter Lam and Sean Whipkey, Institutional Sales Director of CoinDesk’s parent company Bullish Group, along with representatives from the tourism, fintech and technology sectors.

Previous editions of Consensus Hong Kong have generated more than 350 side events across the city, including investment forums, networking gatherings, startup showcases and corporate briefings. Officials expect the multi-year partnership to sustain and expand this momentum, reinforcing Hong Kong’s position as a premier destination for major international conventions and technological exchange.
