Hong Kong Week 2025@Seoul Kicks Off with Grand Opening at Seoul’s National Theatre

Organized by the Hong Kong Leisure and Cultural Services Department and supported by South Korea’s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, *Hong Kong Week 2025@Seoul* was officially launched on September 26 at the National Theatre of Korea in Seoul. The opening ceremony drew a distinguished crowd, including Mr. Yoo Byung-chae, Director of the Public Communication Office of South Korea’s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Mr. Park In-geon, Administrative Director of the National Theatre of Korea, and Ms. Amy Sham, Permanent Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism of Hong Kong. Hong Kong Chief Executive Mr. John Lee also delivered a video address, expressing his support and high expectations for the event.

The opening performance, *Romeo + Juliet* by the Hong Kong Ballet, reimagined Shakespeare’s timeless love story against the backdrop of 1960s Hong Kong, blending Eastern and Western artistic styles. The production captivated the audience, creating a vibrant and enthusiastic atmosphere.

In her speech, Ms. Laura Lo, Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism of Hong Kong, highlighted that *Hong Kong Week 2025@Seoul* aims to showcase Hong Kong’s unique charm through diverse forms such as dance, music, film, fashion, and visual arts. She expressed hope that the event would inspire more Korean friends to visit Hong Kong and experience its vibrant cultural tapestry, from bustling streets to authentic cuisine and warm hospitality.

Running until October 25, *Hong Kong Week 2025@Seoul* will feature 14 captivating programs with over 65 performances and activities across major performing arts venues in Seoul. The event not only showcases Hong Kong’s artistic innovation but also fosters cultural, commercial, and technological exchanges between Hong Kong, Seoul, and South Korea at large.

In his address, Chief Executive John Lee emphasized that both Hong Kong and South Korea boast distinctive cultural heritage and artistic innovation. Through *Hong Kong Week 2025@Seoul*, the two regions aim to deepen cultural exchanges and promote long-term collaboration.

This event serves as a dynamic platform for cultural interaction and artistic creativity between Hong Kong and South Korea, showcasing the diversity and inclusivity of these two vibrant cities. It sets the stage for exciting future collaborations.
