The Hospital Authority (HA) of Hong Kong marked a historic milestone with its 2025 Convention, held from May 26 to 28, 2025, at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. This year’s convention, the largest in its history, expanded to three days for the first time, attracting over 8,000 healthcare professionals and scholars. The event featured approximately 190 expert speakers from 28 delegations across mainland China, Macau, and international regions, fostering a vibrant exchange of professional knowledge and insights.

The HA Convention 2025 showcased a diverse range of topics, including medical advancements, smart hospitals, artificial intelligence (AI), cancer prevention, genetics and screening, and innovative technologies for training and support. The focus on medical technology, particularly AI and digitalization, continued to draw significant attention, building on the momentum of previous conventions. The HA’s commitment to advancing smart healthcare was evident in its push towards “Smart Hospital 2.0,” a vision centered on digital transformation to meet growing healthcare demands.

A key highlight was the development of the fifth-generation Clinical Management System (CMS), which integrates advanced AI and intelligent workflow engines to streamline clinical and administrative processes. This system automates tasks such as imaging scans, laboratory result screening, and report generation, enhancing efficiency across the HA’s network. Additionally, AI-driven language models are being utilized to improve clinical decision-making and patient communication by enabling rapid data searches and evidence-based decision support.

The HA’s mobile application, HA Go, now with over 3.1 million registered users, was showcased as a cornerstone of patient-centered care. The app simplifies appointment management, registration, payment, and queue monitoring, while also offering medication delivery services, empowering patients to manage their health seamlessly.

For the first time, the HA extended its reach beyond Hong Kong, co-hosting the “2025 International Hospital Accreditation and Quality Safety Development Conference” with the Shenzhen Health Commission Hospital Review and Evaluation Research Center and the International Society for Quality in Health Care on May 24–25 in Shenzhen’s Qianhai district. A dedicated “HA Convention – Shenzhen Session” explored AI and big data in healthcare, serving as a prelude to the main convention and strengthening cross-border collaboration.

The convention also facilitated high-level meetings with health delegations from mainland China, including representatives from Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai, Zhejiang, Tibet, and Guangdong. Discussions focused on talent exchange, smart hospital development, traditional Chinese medicine, and medical technology, with a notable delegation led by Liu Liqun, Director of the Guangdong Health Commission, exploring medical collaboration and talent exchange.

The HA highlighted significant progress in clinical services, particularly in cardiovascular care. The Chest Pain Centre at Queen Mary Hospital, the first of its kind in Hong Kong, has successfully implemented services aligned with national accreditation standards, optimizing treatment for cardiovascular patients. Additionally, Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital and Prince of Wales Hospital have achieved accreditation under the “International Hospital Accreditation Standards (China) (2021 Edition),” with three more acute hospitals slated for accreditation in 2025/26, aligning Hong Kong’s healthcare with international benchmarks.

On the final day of the convention, the HA honored outstanding contributions from its workforce, recognizing seven outstanding individuals, six exceptional teams, and 14 young achievers across various roles, including doctors, nurses, allied health professionals, and administrative staff. These awards underscored the HA’s commitment to fostering teamwork and delivering high-quality patient care.

The HA Convention 2025 highlighted Hong Kong’s public healthcare system at a transformative juncture. By embracing cutting-edge technologies, enhancing service efficiency, optimizing resource allocation, and strengthening regional and international partnerships, the HA is paving the way for a sustainable healthcare future. As the HA continues to innovate and collaborate, it remains dedicated to improving the health and well-being of Hong Kong’s citizens.
