Iranian President Accuses US of Persistent Bad Faith in Negotiations and Ceasefire Process

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has accused the United States of continued perfidy and bad faith during the negotiation and ceasefire phases, highlighting what he described as America’s true intention to abandon diplomatic solutions.

According to a report by Iran’s Mehr News Agency, cited by Xinhua, Pezeshkian made the remarks during a telephone conversation on Sunday (April 19) with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The two leaders exchanged views on the latest regional situation, the Islamabad negotiations, and ceasefire-related matters.

Pezeshkian expressed appreciation for Pakistan’s firm efforts to achieve peace and extended special thanks to Prime Minister Sharif and Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir for their contributions.

He stated that the United States has continued to exhibit treacherous, bullying, and unreasonable behavior throughout the negotiation and ceasefire stages.

The Iranian president emphasized that Washington’s ongoing provocative and illegal actions — including the so-called maritime blockade — blatantly violate the ceasefire agreement and contravene the purposes and principles of the UN Charter. Such conduct, coupled with threatening statements by U.S. officials against Iran, will only deepen international skepticism regarding America’s sincerity in negotiations and further expose its attempt to repeat past mistakes by abandoning diplomatic channels.

Pezeshkian stressed that Iran remains committed to developing and strengthening relations with all neighboring countries, including those on the southern shore of the Persian Gulf, on the basis of good-neighborliness, friendship, and mutual respect. He expressed hope that these countries would draw lessons from recent experiences and work toward enhancing regional peace and security through collective cooperation, while staying away from the destabilizing interference of extra-regional powers, particularly the United States.
