Local hero Wong Hong Kit Jack excelled at the PPA Asia Professional Pickleball Tour Hong Kong Open 2025, winning gold in men's singles and silver in men's doubles as the four-day event wrapped up yesterday at Kai Tak Sports Park's Arena.

Amid competition from over 100 pros and 400 amateurs from 25 countries, Wong leveraged home advantage. In the singles final, he avenged a prior loss to Vietnam's Giang Trinh, triumphing 11-9, 4-11, 11-9 in a dramatic three-setter. The decider swung wildly, with Wong leading 6-0 before Trinh's 9-point surge, but Wong rallied to victory. "Thanks to the crowd's support, I turned it around," he said. "Winning at home is special."

Partnering South Korea's Kim Eunggwon in doubles, they reached the final by edging Australia's George Wall and Joseph Wild 11-9, 13-11, but lost to Americans Thomas Yu and Yang Len 6-11, 11-9, 10-12 for silver.

In women's events, Netherlands' Roos van Reek swept both titles: singles over Taiwan's Hsieh Yu-chieh, and doubles with Taiwan's Wei Ting-chieh against China's Long Yufei and USA's Wang Xiaoyi. Hong Kong's Wong Hong Yi took bronze-match defeat in singles, 10-12, 7-11 to Long Yufei.

The tournament highlighted pickleball's rising popularity in Asia, with Wong's haul cementing his prominence.
