The "Backstreet Alliance" program, which offers discounts to residents and tourists, has expanded to Kowloon City after successful campaigns in the Central and Western District and Wan Chai. The Kowloon City chapter launched on Monday at Kowloon City Plaza. Algernon Yau, Hong Kong’s Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, emphasized the program's role in fostering collaboration and stimulating economic activity.

The initiative aims to highlight Kowloon City’s cultural and historical charm. Last year’s campaign in Central and Western District saw a 20% increase in business for participating small merchants. Approximately 50 Kowloon City businesses will offer discounts from September 15 to October 31 to customers with a "Local Guide Discount Card". These promotions include free items with minimum spending or discounts on total bills.

The Urban Renewal Authority created a "Kowloon City Local Guide" map with augmented reality experiences accessible via QR codes. Donald Choi Wun-hing, URA Managing Director, highlighted the initiative’s role in supporting Kowloon City’s development while preserving its cultural identity and helping businesses during redevelopment.

The Hong Kong Federation of Small and Medium Enterprises, along with the Urban Renewal Authority and CLP Power, organized the initiative and introduced a "Kowloon City Deep Dive" map. This map divides the district into five thematic routes to encourage exploration. With the National Day holiday approaching, the campaign aims to attract more visitors and boost local tourism.
