New Huanggang Port Commences Operation with Innovative “Joint Inspection” Model, Slashing Travel Time to 5 Minutes

The newly reconstructed Huanggang Port, a pivotal land gateway linking Hong Kong and Shenzhen, officially commenced operations at 6:30 AM today (October 12, 2026). The opening marks the debut of the “Cooperative Inspection and Joint Release” clearance model, a streamlined process that allows travelers to complete both Hong Kong and Shenzhen immigration formalities in a single queue with one identity verification.
Operations were reported to be smooth throughout the morning as the first wave of cross-boundary travelers experienced significantly reduced transit times. Authorities noted that the surrounding areas in Shenzhen remained orderly as the port transitioned into its new operational phase.
A World-Class Infrastructure Hub
Spanning a total construction area of approximately 689,700 square meters, the new Huanggang Port features a sophisticated layout of five stories above ground and four below. It currently stands as the world’s largest modern land port within a single structure.
To facilitate high-efficiency travel, the port is equipped with 134 cooperative self-service e-channels and 68 manual counters. Under the new "one-stop" clearance model, the average time required to cross the border is expected to drop from the previous 30 minutes to just five minutes. The facility is designed to handle a daily throughput of 200,000 passengers, with a peak capacity of up to 300,000 per day.
Scientific Layout and Streamlined Logistics
The port utilizes a scientifically designed vertical layering system to ensure the efficient separation of pedestrians and vehicles. The complex integrates passenger inspection halls, cross-boundary vehicle inspection zones, public transport interchanges, and an underground comprehensive transportation hub. Furthermore, the port has introduced an innovative "five-in-one" vehicle inspection mode, drastically simplifying the clearance process for drivers and logistics operators.
Multi-Modal Connectivity
Connectivity is a cornerstone of the new port’s design. Level B2 of the facility provides direct access to Shenzhen Metro Line 7, allowing travelers to transfer to the urban rail network seamlessly without exiting the terminal.
In the coming years, the port is slated to become a major multi-modal transit hub served by five rail lines. These include the operational Shenzhen Metro Line 7, the planned Metro Lines 20 and 22, the Sui-Guan-Shen (Guangzhou-Dongguan-Shenzhen) Intercity Railway, and the future MTR Northern Link Spur Line from Hong Kong.
