In his policy address on Wednesday, September 17, Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu stated the government's commitment to making it easier for people to visit patriotic education facilities in Mainland China and to actively promote Chinese culture.
Lee emphasized that Hong Kong will incorporate patriotic education bases within the HKSAR to encourage visits from students and young people.
"We will work closely with patriotic groups to combine our efforts in organizing more patriotic education activities," Lee stated.
He also noted that the Education Bureau (EDB) will integrate patriotic education into everyday learning and teaching.
The government plans to promote the "Love Our Home, Treasure Our Country" series of activities, strengthen the Constitution and Basic Law Student Ambassadors Training Scheme, create itineraries for students to learn about the founding history of China, and conduct focused inspections on national education.
Lee also highlighted that the authorities will provide professional development and activities for teachers and students related to updated national security education, release the final version of the Values Education Curriculum Framework, and improve the curriculum frameworks for senior secondary Chinese History and History subjects.
The Chinese Culture Promotion Office will concentrate on signature projects like the Chinese Culture Festival and exhibitions of the General History of China series. It will also lead the establishment of a museum to showcase the nation’s development and achievements, as well as the Chinese Culture Experience Centre.
Furthermore, the government will collaborate with Shenzhen to promote a new "red" educational route, aiming to improve understanding of the history of the War of Resistance among Hong Kong citizens and tourists.
Lee added that the authorities will review, restore, and protect historic sites in various districts related to the Communist Party of China's participation in the War of Resistance, with the goal of incorporating them into tourism routes and educational activities.
