Wang Fuk Court Fire | Thousands of Tai Po Residents Queue with White Flowers to Pay Respects

Following the devastating Level 5 fire at Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po, large crowds of citizens continued to arrive at the estate on Sunday, bearing white flowers and condolence cards to express solidarity with affected residents and honour those who lost their lives. At its peak, the queue of mourners stretched all the way to Tai Po Mega Mall.
One resident who had been waiting for nearly an hour said she was determined to stay in line, noting that the trapped residents inside Wang Fuk Court had waited far longer for firefighters to reach them. A young child clutching a bouquet of white flowers said that although he had already queued for 45 minutes, he wanted to keep waiting “so that the people who passed away will know we remember them and can rest in peace in heaven.”
Another visitor, a Tai Po native who grew up in the area, brought his young daughter to lay flowers. He said he wanted her to understand the community she was part of, while expressing hope that the survivors would soon heal from their trauma and wishing eternal peace for the deceased.
