Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi held a telephone conversation on the evening of May 12 with Pakistani Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar.

Dar briefed the Chinese side on recent developments in Pakistan’s mediation efforts between Iran and the United States. He expressed gratitude for China’s support for Pakistan’s peace promotion initiatives and expressed hope to strengthen coordination with China to jointly play a positive role in maintaining regional peace and stability.

According to a statement from China’s Foreign Ministry, Wang Yi reiterated China’s principled position, commended Pakistan for facilitating US-Iran negotiations and extending the temporary ceasefire, and expressed hope that Pakistan would maintain confidence and intensify its mediation efforts. He urged Pakistan to contribute to the proper resolution of the Strait of Hormuz access issue and the early restoration of regional peace — a goal that also reflects the common aspiration of the international community. China will continue to support Pakistan’s mediation efforts and make its own contributions in this regard.

Wang Yi pointed out that in a few days, China and Pakistan will mark the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. Both sides should jointly organize commemorative activities, maintain close high-level exchanges, strengthen strategic communication, consolidate their ironclad friendship, advance practical cooperation, better safeguard each other’s core interests as well as shared interests, and elevate the China-Pakistan All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership to new heights.

In the face of a world marked by turbulence and transformation, the two countries should voice their just positions on multilateral platforms such as the United Nations and jointly defend multilateralism.

Dar stated that Pakistan is ready to take the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties as an opportunity to deepen all-round cooperation with China, strengthen multilateral coordination, and promote new progress in the Pakistan-China All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership. The two sides also discussed planned high-level exchanges, activities to commemorate the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations, and broader bilateral and multilateral cooperation.
