Hong Kong's sporting elite gathered at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre on Tuesday evening, 31 March 2026, for the Cathay 2025 Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards, an event widely regarded as the city's "Sports Oscars".
Fencer Ryan Choi Chun-yin (蔡俊彥) and swimmer Siobhan Haughey (何詩蓓) claimed the night's highest honours. Choi was named the Cathay Best of the Best Hong Kong Sports Stars Award for Men for the first time, while Haughey reclaimed the women's equivalent for the fourth time. Choi also took home the Hong Kong Sports Stars Award for Men, making him one of the biggest winners of the evening with multiple accolades.
The five recipients of the Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards for Men were Ryan Choi Chun-yin (fencing), Ian Ho Yentou (何甄陶, swimming), Wong Chun-ting (黃鎮廷, table tennis), Coleman Wong Chak-lam (黃澤林, tennis), and Chiu Hin-chun (趙顯臻, rowing). In his acceptance speech, Choi thanked voters and shared a warm message with his parents. Ho reflected on his journey since arriving in Hong Kong six years ago, while veteran Wong Chun-ting spoke of the opportunities the city has given him. Coleman Wong, who was absent, sent a video message encouraging athletes to aim high for the upcoming Asian Games.
On the women's side, the Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards for Women went to Siobhan Haughey (swimming), Kaylin Hsieh Sin-yan (佘繕妡, fencing), Grace Lau Mo-sheung (劉慕裳, karate), Ng On-yee (吳安儀, snooker), and Ceci Lee Sze-wing (李思穎, cycling). Haughey spoke movingly about rediscovering her love for the sport, while Lau recalled how a past disappointment at the awards had fuelled her determination, leading to her sixth win in the category.
In the team and combination categories, the Hong Kong Sports Stars Award for Team Only Sport was awarded to the Hong Kong Men's Handball Team. Captain Freddie Tse Wing-fai thanked the public for their strong support in the voting process and reflected on the team's historic showing at the National Games, vowing to push harder for the Asian Games.
The Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards for Sports Combination recognised three outstanding pairs and teams: the Men's Foil Team (comprising Edgar Cheung Ka-long 張家朗, Ryan Choi Chun-yin, Leung Chin-yu 梁千雨, and Lawrence Ng Lok-wang 吳諾弘), who secured a historic gold at the National Games; the badminton mixed doubles duo of Jordan Tang Chun-man (鄧俊文) and Tse Ying-suet (謝影雪); and the table tennis men's doubles pair of Wong Chun-ting and Baldwin Chan Ho-wah (陳顥樺). A representative from the foil team expressed gratitude to their coach and teammates, while Wong Chun-ting described his partnership with the much younger Chan as a successful "new and old combination".
The Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China received 128 nominations from 56 sports associations this year. Winners were chosen through a combination of votes from a judging panel, media representatives, and the public.
The ceremony featured heartfelt acceptance speeches, with many athletes crediting coaches, teammates, families, and supporters for their success. The awards highlighted the strength and diversity of Hong Kong sport, with fencing, swimming, and table tennis standing out as particularly dominant disciplines over the past year.
