World Data Organization Established in Beijing as the First Global Body for Data Development and Governance

The Preparatory Committee of the World Data Organization (WDO) officially concluded its founding assembly in Beijing on Monday (the 30th), electing its inaugural board of directors, board of supervisors, and executive leadership, marking the official commencement of its operations. Headquartered in Beijing, the WDO is the world's first professional international organization dedicated to advancing data development and governance practices.
Data has emerged as a critical factor of production driving economic growth, technological innovation, and societal development. However, issues such as cross-border data flows, privacy protection, security governance, and the mutual recognition of standards have long lacked a global coordination mechanism. Consequently, nations face the practical challenges of regulatory fragmentation and divergent governance approaches in the data sector. The WDO was established precisely to fill this void in global governance by creating a professional, neutral, and inclusive framework for international dialogue and cooperation.
