Hong Kong will exclusively host Art Basel for the next five years, as announced by Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism Rosanna Law Shuk-pui.

Art Basel Hong Kong 2026 is scheduled to take place from March 27th to 29th at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC). This arrangement, which makes Hong Kong the sole host city for the exhibition in the region for the coming five years, follows an agreement reached with Art Basel.

Secretary Law stated that the agreement entails closer collaboration between the two parties over the next five years. Plans include expanding the scale of the exhibition and exploring various strategies to attract art enthusiasts and collectors from across the globe to Hong Kong.

"Attending Art Basel in Hong Kong every March will become a fixture on the calendars of high-end art collectors worldwide," Law asserted.

To enhance the Art Basel experience, the authorities will actively organize high-quality artistic performances and events. This aims to allow collectors and enthusiasts to immerse themselves in Hong Kong's unique cultural and artistic atmosphere and appreciate the appeal of these events, Law continued.

Beyond the annual art fair in March, Art Basel also engages in public art education and promotion initiatives within Hong Kong.

The authorities aim to collaborate with Art Basel to further solidify Hong Kong's position as a world-class art trading platform, while simultaneously showcasing the exceptional talent of Hong Kong and Asian artists to a global audience of viewers and collectors, Law added.

She also highlighted Art Basel's strong performance in recent years, attracting 80,400 visitors in 2024 and 86,500 in 2025, with tourists accounting for half of these attendees. This year's fair will bring together 240 galleries from 41 countries and regions and will feature numerous cultural events, promising an even greater scale and grandeur.

When questioned about the potential for hosting related events at the Kai Tak Sports Park in the future, Law clarified that Art Basel has traditionally been held at the HKCEC.

However, she mentioned that staging other large-scale exhibitions or outdoor artworks elsewhere, including the Kai Tak Sports Park, is an option under consideration.

Furthermore, she emphasized that the authorities will intensify efforts to promote high-end tourism, with the goal of attracting not only collectors and art lovers to the exhibition but also encouraging them to experience all that Hong Kong has to offer.
