Hong Kong and the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region signed two key cooperation documents on Thursday (February 26), centering on artificial intelligence (AI) collaboration and youth exchanges.

The agreements were formalized during the Gateway to ASEAN & Strategic Hinterland of the Greater Bay Area - Guangxi-Hong Kong Investment Promotion Conference 2026, with the ceremony witnessed by Hong Kong Chief Executive John Leeand Chen Gang, Secretary of the CPC Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Committee.

A prominent highlight was the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on AI cooperation, signed between Hong Kong's Digital Policy Office and Guangxi's Big Data Development Bureau. This pact aims to boost joint efforts in AI applications, facilitate the international market entry of data products and AI innovations, advance global data infrastructure, share insights on AI governance, security, and standards, and nurture innovation and technology talent.

The second agreement focuses on enhancing youth exchanges to build stronger people-to-people connections and support mutual growth.

In his remarks at the conference, Chief Executive John Lee underscored Guangxi's vital role as a frontier gateway for China's engagement with ASEAN nations. He described the region as a primary link for China's southwestern areas to connect with the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and maritime trade routes.

Lee welcomed Guangxi enterprises seeking overseas expansion to utilize Hong Kong's strengths as an international financial, trade, and innovation center, enabling joint pursuit of global opportunities.

These agreements represent a significant advancement in Hong Kong-Guangxi ties, reinforcing economic collaboration while aligning with national goals for high-quality development, regional integration, and progress in digital and emerging technologies.
