Hong Kong's Historic Yau Ma Tei Police Station Opens for Immersive Cinematic Exhibition

The former Yau Ma Tei Police Station, a Grade II historic building on Canton Road built in 1922 and famous as a filming location for classic Hong Kong cop-and-gangster movies, opened to the public on January 2, 2026, for the "Yau Ma Tei Police Station: A Cinematic Journey" exhibition.
Organised by the Cultural and Creative Industries Development Agency, the exhibition occupies the ground floor and pays tribute to Hong Kong's iconic police thrillers from the 1970s to 1990s. It recreates authentic police station settings and famous movie scenes through immersive design, blending heritage architecture with cinematic nostalgia.
Visitors explore themed areas including a cinema-style entrance, a time tunnel with action visuals and sound effects, a faithfully rebuilt miscellaneous duty room featuring offices, armories, evidence storage, and props from films like A Better Tomorrow and Infernal Affairs, and—for the first time—the detention room, where people can pose in police or prisoner uniforms against movie backdrops.
The exhibition promotes film tourism, celebrates Hong Kong's creative legacy, and supports the local economy. Deputy Chief Secretary Warner Cheuk highlighted the venue's perfect fit as one of nine new tourism hotspots.
The exhibition runs daily from January 2–11, 2026 (09:00–22:00), then Tuesdays–Saturdays (except public holidays) 11:00–17:00 and 19:00–22:00, Sundays and public holidays 09:00–22:00, closed Mondays (except public holidays). Each 25-minute session is limited to 20 people.
Tickets must be booked in advance online via Cityline (no on-site sales). Full price is HK$30, concessions HK$10 (students, seniors 60+, CSSA recipients, people with disabilities), and free for children 6 and under (accompanied and pre-booked). Early slots have sold out quickly.
