12 Tonnes of KitKat Chocolate Stolen in Major European Heist Ahead of Easter

Thieves have stolen a truck carrying approximately 12 tonnes (over 413,000 bars) of KitKat chocolate in Europe, raising concerns about potential shortages just before the Easter holiday.
The shipment, part of Nestlé’s new chocolate range, was en route from a production facility in central Italy to its final destination in Poland when it disappeared last week. The truck and its entire cargo remain missing.
Nestlé confirmed the theft and is working closely with local authorities and supply chain partners to investigate the incident. No arrests have been reported so far, and the whereabouts of the truck and the chocolate are still unknown.
The timing of the heist has sparked worries about supply disruptions across Europe during the peak Easter chocolate season. Market analysts suggest the loss of such a large volume could lead to shortages on store shelves in the coming weeks.
In a light-hearted response, a KitKat spokesperson said the thieves appeared to have taken the brand’s famous slogan “Have a break” too literally, joking that they used more than 12 tonnes of chocolate to “break” away.
Nestlé has urged consumers to check the batch codes on KitKat products and report any suspicious stock that may have originated from the stolen shipment.
This incident highlights the growing problem of cargo theft in Europe, with industry reports showing hundreds of thousands of cargo crimes recorded globally in recent years, resulting in billions of euros in losses.
The investigation is ongoing.
